1. Description

The «Group for the Promotion, Documentation, and Mapping of Local Linguistic Diversity – ΓΛΟΜΙΛ(ΟΣ)» has been operating continuously from the academic year 2022-2023 to the present, with a different student composition each year. It is based at the 4th General Lyceum of Corinth, under the scientific supervision of linguist Dr. Michail I. Marinis, and involves students from the 2nd grade.

ΓΛΟΜΙΛ(ΟΣ) is a research group conducting original research on the promotion, documentation, and mapping of local linguistic diversity through the study of existing sources, the development of questionnaires, material collection—including interviews with native speakers and recordings of natural speech—data analysis, and the presentation of findings at public events.

ΓΛΟΜΙΛ(ΟΣ) operates as a collaborative team, requiring the continuous and active participation of students in all phases of the process.

Moreover, ΓΛΟΜΙΛ(ΟΣ) aims to:

  • familiarize students with the concept of linguistic diversity,
  • raise awareness about the documentation and preservation of a significant part of intangible local cultural heritage, and
  • develop essential social skills (teamwork, cooperation, etc.) and literacy skills (literature research, critical thinking, public presentations, argumentation, etc.).

Snapshots from the experiential workshop of ΓΛΟΜΙΛ(ΟΣ), held under the auspices of the Association of Philologists of Corinthia, on the afternoon of January 25, 2024, at the Municipal Art Gallery of Corinth.

The activity was autonomous but was inspired by the students’ morning participation in the narration of Georgios Vizyinos’ iconic work «The Only Journey of His Life,» co-organized by the same entities.

Under the guidance of George Binari, the students reflected, introspected, expressed themselves freely, engaged in self-exploration, and became a cohesive group.

3.1.2. A musical naration (Georgios Vizyinos’ “The Only Journey of His Life”)
(Co-organized by ΓΛΟΜΙΛ(ΟΣ) and the Society of Philologists of Corinthia)
